Memorial stone at Beacon Ring

The trees on Beacon Ring are of two distinct types and I could not see any reason for this until I looked on Google Earth and all became clear. But before you look, try to guess why. A clue; the date on the stone is 1953. Personally I think this site would be better with no trees as the size and shape would be clearer.
