Guide to Scotland's hills & mountains

Beinn Eilde photo

The north summit of Beinn Eilde

Beinn Eilde has two summits both the same height within the margin of error. Currently the maps show this northern top to be the highest with a photogrammetricaly derived height of 674m. The cairn is flattened. The hill is on the east west watershed of Scotland, a route walked several times since the first traverse by Dave Hewitt in 1987. The watershed normally sticks close to the west coast, but here it is far to the east. Water falls eastwards into the Mashie and Spey and westwards into the Pattack, Spean and Lochy.
